History of the Villa:

Grand Duke Frederick Francis, Prince of Wenden-Schwerin and Ratzburg, accompanied by his wife, a Russian Romanov Princess, moved into this superb villa built in the German style on the lower slopes of California Hill in 1889. It was impounded during the First World War, before being acquired in 1923 by Mr. Gruss-Gallieni, Marshal Gallieni's son-in-law. In memory of the pacification of the island of Madagascar he called the villa "Le Rouve". This private residence is not open to the public.
