Domaine du Castellet, Villefranche-sur-Mer: a gated hillside domaine on the Moyenne Corniche

Le Castellet is a private, gated domaine of around 100 houses in Villefranche-sur-Mer, set just off the Moyenne Corniche, the road linking Nice and Monaco. From this position it gives easy access to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Èze, and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, all within a few minutes' drive.
The domaine sits on the hillside above the town of Villefranche, and this elevation is its defining feature. Because most plots rise up the slope rather than sitting at sea level, the majority of houses have an open, largely unobstructed view rather than one blocked by neighbouring rooftops — a rare advantage this close to the coast. The orientation is predominantly southwest, facing Cap de Nice and the town of Nice itself across the bay, which gives most properties long afternoon and evening sun and clear sunset views. Depending on the exact plot, views can extend from the Baie des Anges towards the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, and on the clearest days as far as the Esterel massif.
Plot sizes within the domaine vary considerably, from around 1,200–1,500 sq m up to close to 3,000 sq m for the larger, higher properties, with houses ranging from classic Provençal villas to contemporary architect-built homes. The domaine is gated and secured, and its combination of privacy, elevation, and proximity to both Nice airport and Monaco has made it one of the more established addresses on this stretch of coast for several decades — it is also where the singer Tina Turner is reported to have owned a property, which she confirmed selling in 2013.
For anyone considering the area, the appeal is straightforward: a secure, established domaine within a short drive of Nice, Beaulieu, and Monaco, hillside plots that largely avoid being overlooked, and a southwest exposure suited to those who want sun through the afternoon and evening rather than the morning.
