Les Carles, Saint-Tropez: a sought-after residential area and its private gated domaine near the port
Les Carles is one of Saint-Tropez's most sought-after residential areas. It lies between the town, Sainte-Anne and the Route des Plages, and follows the Route des Carles, which leads from the town up to the Route des Plages and on towards the beaches of Pampelonne. Within it, close to the town centre, is the Domaine des Carles, a private gated domaine of villas with gardens and swimming pools.
From the edge of town to the Route des Plages
The area begins close to the town, near the popular restaurant Salama, a short walk from the Place des Lices, and extends up the Route des Carles towards the Route des Plages. The Route des Carles is also home to La Bastide de Saint-Tropez, a family-owned hotel listed in the Michelin Guide. Les Carles borders the Route des Plages, where the municipal tennis centre offers 7 floodlit tennis courts and 3 padel courts.

The Domaine des Carles, a private domaine in the centre of town
Officially named the Lotissement des Carles, and sometimes referred to as the Résidence des Carles, the Domaine des Carles is a gated domaine of around 40 to 50 houses, most of which have a swimming pool. It is one of the few private domaines in Saint-Tropez where residents can reach the village entirely on foot.
The domaine has two entrances: a pedestrian entrance behind the Chanel boutique, leading directly into the centre of Saint-Tropez, and a gated car entrance on the Route des Carles. The port and the Place des Lices are around 5 minutes' walk away, and the Pampelonne beaches around 5 minutes by car via the Route des Plages.
Most houses were originally built in the traditional Provençal and Tropézienne style. Some have since been renovated in a more modern style, while others have kept their original character. Plots typically range from around 1,000 to 3,000 m², and most properties have their own garden and swimming pool. The domaine is flat, so its houses do not have sea views, but it offers a calm, private setting with everything within walking distance.
